Silent’s been pretty morbid lately.
I’m sure you noticed that from his posts before he freaked
out.
Anyway, he’s asked me for help on a project of his. He wants
us to focus all of our energy on it because he wants it completed as soon as
possible.
As in, he wants it finished before he dies.
I don’t think that will be a problem. I haven’t noticed any
immediate threats around us. Still, this is one thing that Silent won’t be
budging on.
So, updates on this blog will probably be infrequent, and
we’ll probably be asking some questions.
So, first question:
I don't know what the last official count was. The ones I've encountered recently, I can't even tell whether or not they're technically Fears.
ReplyDeleteThe Vision.
The Red Cap and its freaking bleeders.
The Blind Man's Archivists.
The Black Dog.
The Brute and his Bride.
That's just what I've seen recently.
The Dying Man - which may or may not be what the Red Cap really is.
There are Wooden Dolls in our future, maybe.
The Slender Man, but Blair won't talk about Him.
The things I've read about on here, like the Quiet - there's The Archangel, EAT, the Smiling Man. The Grotesque. The Cold Boy.
I'm rambling. My answer?
I don't think we'll ever know how many there are, really. Either way, we're all fucked.
I've heard reports I trust of at least 26 (more if Jack is a Fear, less if the Brute and Bride are in fact halves of a whole and/or the Redcap is a Dying Man fragment). I've had a personal sighting or two of Slender Man (he was targeting someone else, for the most part I only have trouble with their Servants) and have personally encountered Camper, Timberwolves, Nests, Slenderproxies (and fucking seen the Path of Black Leaves as one walked out of it and tossed a man in behind her), that fucking *thing* that used be a man bitten by the Rake, Oathbreakers, Puppets/Willing Dolls, at least one Door, and Scarlet Marked (and one Blood Vessel) leaving me *certain* of the existence of their associated Fears.
ReplyDeleteJessica Rand: I've heard a rumor of a new Fear called Nobody and my team has been dealing with another potential new Fear known as the Glitch in the System.
ReplyDeleteFrom the research I've gathered, I have reason to believe that there are hundreds of them. Many of the "Fears", like your Slender Man and Archangel, are at the top of an eldritch "food" chain in this universe, and they will keep coming back no matter how hard humanity tries to forget them.
ReplyDeleteWith that said, it's impossible to know just how many there are. We've been incredibly lucky with just the few hundred or so that we've seen on Earth in the past few thousand years. If what's been theorized is true, we'd have been dead a long time ago if something that's on a higher tier than the current eldritch beings entered our universe.
I feel that "Fears" is too narrow a term, though, so bear in mind that many of the "few hundred" usually fall under a 'fear' popularized by the more powerful entities. It's also possible that these few hundred are just different types of the same entities, or different aspects of them.

The most prominent PRE in my life, I gather, was the Grandfather - the Blind Man.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I have very little to say on the matter, as my memory of anything before earlier this year has been taken from me.
What I can say with certainty is that the feeling of having the Grandfather remove one's memories leaves one with a feeling of such wrongness that you are left with self-doubt at every turn.
'Is this what I would have done, were I able to remember myself?'
'Have I experienced something like this before?'
It is a very empty way to live one's life.
I think you all misinterpret these 'Fears'. They're not all bad. Some can lead you to peace.
ReplyDeleteSo far, I've only noticed one Fear. The Fear that others call the Choir.
ReplyDeleteYep, that's it. But then again, one is more then enough.
