Cold

I never realized exactly how little I knew about Yuki until today. I knew I didn’t know much about her, but I never realized the difference between knowing and knowing. Humans are incredibly complex beings. I think I knew Tallie and Andrew, they were a couple of the best friends I’ve ever had. But I only knew Tallie for a couple of months. Andrew grew up without me. I probably couldn’t tell you their favorite colors.

I’m getting off topic. Yuki went out today. That was normal. She does that every few days. When I asked her where she was going, she just told me to stay where I was and that she had to “Work something up.”

Again, not important. When she came back she went straight into the bathroom and turned on the shower. About an hour later, the shower was still running and I had to go pee. She didn’t answer when I knocked, and I got a little worried. When I checked the door, I was surprised to find that it was unlocked.

When I opened the door I was hit with a blast of steam that blinded me for a few moments. She had the shower turned as hot as it would go. She was sitting curled up under the stream of water fully dressed and soaked through. Her skin was bright red from the hot water, but she was shivering. I noticed her knuckles were bloodied and a bruise was forming on her cheek.

She wouldn’t let me touch her, but she also said she didn’t want me to leave. It was really awkward, but it made me realize that there’s something under her cold shell. She still refuses to talk about what she’s been through. After that, I think I’m okay with leaving her to her silence.
