After Nessa visited the hospital about her disease, she was
okay for a while. This leads me to believe that at least some of the Plague
Doctor’s diseases are curable.
From Niel and Marianne’s story, we can see that the Quiet
doesn’t necessarily consume targets randomly and unintelligibly. From the way
it targeted Niel and Marianne and drew out their disappearance, it seems like
it could possibly have a mind or a purpose, even.
Andrew’s nightmares show that there doesn’t have to be a
reoccurring motif with the Grotesque. It also seems to show that the nightmares
caused by the Grotesque are unusually vivid and disturbing.
Assuming that the thing I encountered in the Empty City was
the Grotesque, it seems like it takes on an appearance that reflects what you
think it should look like (explaining why it took a while to settle on a sort
of general appearance). The place where he appeared also seemed to be a
reflection of my mind.
Also, assuming that I actually met the Grotesque in the
Empty City, it seems like that is where each of the Fears’ realms are. Though,
it is possible that the Grotesque was meeting me there and its actual realm is
somewhere else.
Finally, if the Fears really did “choose” me to
tell stories and to learn something, they have a plan. I don’t know what, but
they have been planning something for a while. I also think it’s safe to say
the Fears don’t mind working with each other. I don’t think so many different
Fears were active in the small area of my old college without much trouble,
otherwise.
